Gopal Balakrishnan: Gopal Balakrishnan, a distinguished scholar in modern European intellectual history, political theory, philosophy, and economic history, began his academic journey at Cornell University, earning his undergraduate degree as a College Scholar in 1989. He later pursued a Ph.D. in Modern European History, which he completed in 1998. Balakrishnan's early academic success was marked by prestigious recognitions such as the Jean Monnet Fellowship at the European University Institute in Florence and the Harper Schmidt Fellowship at the University of Chicago, affirming his potential to contribute significantly to the academic community. At Cornell, Balakrishnan developed an interest in modern European intellectual history, philosophy, anthropology, and Marxism. His dissertation on Carl Schmitt's political theories was expanded into his first significant book, "The Enemy: An Intellectual Portrait of Carl Schmitt." This critical examination of Schmitt’s ideas established Schmitt as a classic in political theory, establishing his reputation as a historian of ideas.
